This was my first Gold Wing. It was a 1984 GL1200 Aspencade. It was the first year for the 1200 fully loaded Aspencade model. In its day, it was the ultimate cruising/touring bike. It was equipped with an air ride suspension, FM stereo/cassette system with built in audio headsets for driver and passenger and had the first digital dash found on a motorcycle. I was the third owner and did my best to keep the bike as original as possible. At the time of this picture, it had just over 120,000 kms on it, as far as I know.
In the following pages, I have shared my stories of the rides I have taken and about the fantastic places I have been while riding this beautiful bike. Enjoy!
July, 2015 – Update.
After an unfortunate incident while out riding earlier this year, this beautiful bike is no more. Myself and my passenger were pretty banged up, but are still here to tell about it. Never fear!! I found another one – same year, make and model.
February, 2018 – Update.
After almost 3 years of surgeries related to the accident (six in all), physical therapy, and working on my new bike to bring it up to the standards of the old one, I am ready to do some serious touring again.
June 1, 2018 – Update:
After stopping in at a dealer last week to ask about donations for a fundraiser we were having the following week, the salesman tried to sell me a new 2018 Gold Wing. I flatly told him “NO, but if you ever get a 1987 to 1993 GL1500 in, give me a call”. I thought he would never take in a bike that old on trade. Well, two days later he called!!
Here is my new baby!!
