The Cherohala Skyway runs from Robbinsville, North Carolina (just south of the Tail of the Dragon) westward into Telico Plains, Tennessee. Just over 50 miles of smooth, twisty highway along a ridge of the westernmost point of the Smokey Mountains. The scenery is spectacular – especially with the fall colours just starting to come out. The weather that day was sunny and clear and traffic was actually quite light, making for a nice enjoyable ride.
We rode the entire stretch and stopped a couple of times for pictures and to take in the view. There isn’t much in Telico Plains, but we did stop at a small restaurant/bar for a bite to eat – my first taste of southern fried catfish and shrimp.
