In February, 2022, Giselle and I were looking at doing another extended ride, this time further north than we had ever been. We had already experienced all the roads south of HWY 16 from Prince Rupert over to the Alberta border and didn’t really want to ride them again. I thought ALASKA! Well, I didn’t really have enough time off for that, but we compromised and planned a route into northern BC that skipped a lot of the roads we had already been on and included a stop in Hyder, Alaska.
We invited our good friends Doug and Cathy Wilkins who rode with us last summer on our Vancouver Island ride. They accepted the challenge, so we started making plans. We started by booking a ferry ride from Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert and planned our adventure from there.
We figured it would take 10 days including the 16 hour ferry ride up to Prince Rupert. Our dates coincided with a ride planned by the GWRRA North West Coast District – the Gypsy Ride. Our plan was to meet up with them in Dawson Creek and ride the final 2 days with the group.
These are my stories: (still in development so stay tuned for more as I create them)
