Nanaimo to Port Hardy

Day one of our 2022 adventure started out with an early morning ferry ride from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo.  We picked up Doug and Cathy in Tsawwassen and we were on our way!  We stuck to the east coast of Vancouver Island from Nanaimo to Campbell river.  The weather was great – a few clouds and sunshine.  We didn’t stop for many photos, but below are some screen captures from my bike camera system.

Just north of Campbell River, we encountered some dark clouds and what looked like a rain storm ahead.  We pulled off the highway to put on our rain gear.  It started raining before we were finished and all of us got soaked!  Continuing on, the rain stopped a couple of minutes later and we had dry roads all the way to Port Hardy.  It is a long ways – over 200 Kms of nothing but twisty roads and trees!

We arrived in Port Hardy and got checked into our motel – the North Shore Inn.  It is old and run down with no elevator.  The lady at the reception was extremely helpful, and even let us park our bikes in a covered area of the building.  We found a bar ( Sporty Bar) just down the street and walked over for dinner.  The food and service was awesome!  Best prime rib I have had in a long while…
