Cotacachi – A Foodie’s Dream…

I went for a walk this morning to find the new supermarket in town, the San Martin Supermercado.  It is a bit of a hike for me, living in the centre of town.  It is kind of on the outskirts of the main business area.  Anyway, I found it and went in looking for pasta sauce.  All the other stores in town did not appear to have any, just ketchup.  They had what I was looking for after using google translate on my phone with one of the clerks.  It is a beautiful store, well laid out with an abundance of choice that the other main supermarket, TIA, simply does not have.

On my walk back I took photos of the many restaurants that are scattered all over this community.  Many of them Giselle and I have eaten at in the past.  Our first experience ever in Cotacachi was at the La Marqueza Restaurant on Leather Street.  It was a lunch stop while on our very first tour in Ecuador. It offers very tasty Ecuadorean dishes served in a nice classy atmosphere.

There are so many restaurants and small coffee shops in town that it would take an entire day to find them all and take a picture of the storefront, but here are some of the ones I have personally dined at over the last month.

As you can see, the choices are numerous.  You can get fine Venezuelan, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Lebanese, and even German foods.  Any place I have been to, the kitchens are clean, the staff are friendly and the prices are amazingly easy on the budget.

All the walking around I did made me hungry!  Nothing better than a tasty breakfast burrito and fresh fruit drink after all that exercise.  I just had to stop in at Subs Station for a bite…
