Otavalo Market

The Otavalo Market is the largest Indigenous market in South America!  Every Saturday, the market square in Otavalo is chock full of indigenous art, crafts, textiles, jewelry, foods and musical instruments brought in by artisans from all over the country.  It covers more than the central square, extending out several blocks in every direction. It is a must see for anybody visiting the country.

We got an early start and found a parking spot only a block or so away from the main square.  After wandering around for a few hours, we headed to a small restaurant overlooking the central square.  Balcon de Imbabura is a nice little restaurant with great local food and friendly service.

After a nice light lunch we headed over towards the brand new food market.  It was huge, with tons of fresh vegetables, fish, meats, spices, and flowers.  It is a huge improvement over the old market we visited when we were here last year.

The Saturday market in Otavalo is a bucket list item for anybody visiting this beautiful country!
