Cotacachi Street Art…

Today, Giselle and I went for a long walk around many of the streets in Cotacachi in search of murals and beautifully painted doors.  This is a bit of what we found.

There was an artist who went around and painted many of the doors you see.  He did this absolutely free, but some of the owners of those doors did not like it and told him to stop.  What a shame, as the work is very beautiful.

We also took some pictures of a few of the gates that open into some of the properties and a few doors with very ornate woodwork.  The metal work on the gates is really beautiful as well.  There are some very talented artisans in the community.

After a visit with our friends Chuck and Susan, we stopped in a small almuerzo for lunch.  $3.00 each and we had a nice meal.  Chicken/vegetable soup, chicken and rice with a small salad, beans and potatoes, fresh fruit juice and a small piece of fruit for dessert.

Later in the day we met with our friend Don at Doc’s Bar for a few beers, then headed to the El Coyote Restaurant.  It is a nice little Mexican restaurant/bar.  There, I ran into an old friend from Pemberton whom I had not seen in over 20 years – Doug Brereton.  We used to snowmobile together on the Pemberton Ice Cap back in the days….talk about a small world.  We also met Carlos, who claims to be the only true Mexican living in Ecuador.  It was an interesting evening…

On our way back to the apartment, we stopped at my favourite pizza place in Cotacachi – Aliani’s – and picked up a pizza.  Giselle went up the street to TIA and found some Ecuadorean wine which we will try out tomorrow…

Another nice day in our little paradise – Cotacachi, Ecuador!
