Every morning except Sunday, we are entertained by the musical garbage truck at precisely 8:00am. We can hear it about a block away, as it makes its way down the street, picking up the trash on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and organics on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. This gives us enough time to run downstairs with trash in hand to give to them as they pass by.
They will not take cardboard – it is recycled somewhere else. The city has also now instituted a program designed to cut back on the use of ‘single use’ plastics. They are discouraging vendors who typically use a ton of plastic bags every day, and are encouraging customers to bring their own bags when shopping at the market. Now, if they could only hire a ‘dog poop scooper’ to help keep the streets clean!
