After a short shopping trip in Ibarra, where we found Ecuadorian wine, we decided to look for a restaurant that serves a sort of national dish of Ecuador. There is a small town between Ibarra and Cotacachi called Chaltura. It is known for its restaurants that serve Cuy – Guinea Pig.
We drove into Chaltura and found this nice looking restaurant, El Chozon. We walked in and went to the counter to order. The menu said they had chicken as well as cuy, and Rose wanted chicken The waiter did not speak English. I personally think they were playing a joke with us when he told us there was no chicken that day. I heard some locals in the corner laugh when he said it. So, we ordered 2 cuy plates to share and some beer. The rest is history!
